This review contains spoilers for Nocturnal Farm and a few minor ones for Nocturnal Salvation. I did beta-read this, but my review is on the final, published version. But, before I begin, as always, I have to gush over the cover. On its own, it’s haunting and terrifying. Together, it looks amazing next to the previous two books in the Nocturnal series.
After the stunning twist in book two of Leia being turned into a vampire against her will, we finally have the thrilling continuation of her story. Despite saving her brother, she learns others are still in danger from Adam’s plan to turn humans feral and to taint the blood supplies to force other vampires out of hiding. Together with the hunter Elisa, vampires Kenji and Grigori, and new allies, they must stop Adam’s plan before it’s too late. There are twists and turns as they try to fight Adam and find a cure for those who’ve been affected by the Daywalker’s blood.
So, I loved this book. Leia’s new struggle to keep her humanity as she deals with the inner monster of being a vampire is a killer to read. Her battle to do the right thing at moments when she wants to give in to her hunger is thrilling and honestly relatable at times. At her core though, she still wants to help people from Adam’s wrath and keep her brother safe, which is admirable and her way of solving things is unique. With some of the other, more physically badass characters, Leia’s a badass heroine in her own way and it’s so fun watching her grow.
I love the returning characters, especially my favorites Kenji and Elisa. Kenji’s a nice voice of reason and Elisa shows time and time again why she’s such an effective hunter. We get to meet more Owls, Sean and Mina, who have worked with Adam before, and a vampire from Grigori’s past, Maxim. I was worried about all the characters, things might get bogged down, but scenes including everyone were balanced well. Everyone got a chance to shine and the dynamics between the vampires and hunters was perfect.
I don’t want to spoil the plot too much more than what I’ve said, but the ending both wraps things up nicely for what happened but also offers a tease at what will happen next. If you enjoyed book two, you’ll love this addition to the series. I honestly can’t say it enough, but I love this series and have been amazed each time I get to read a new one as they keep getting better.
I give it 5/5 purple mini iPods
