Anime Review: Vivy Fluorite Eye’s Song

Key Visual of Vivy

This anime was a trip and I loved every moment of it.

Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song, or Vivy for short, premiered earlier this year. At first glance, it seems like an idol anime, with the main character Vivy on front with musical elements near her. However, in one poster, we have a burning building half fallen into destruction, pieces splintering off. I love this visual and we don’t even see Vivy’s face or her titular blue eyes.

In the first episode, we’re greeted with Diva, an AI who’s primary “mission” is to make people happy with her singing. To limit the AI’s, each are given a single mission to fulfill. Diva’s first fan gives her the nickname Vivy as she sings on a small stage at an amusement park, dreaming of performing one day on the main stage. After a performance, she collapses and meets Matsumoto, an AI from 100 years in the future. He explains how a war between humans and AI begins from a path of huge decisions, causing AIs to turn on, and ultimately murder the humans. After witnessing Matsumoto predict an event correctly at the park, Vivy agrees to help him stop the future war.

First and foremost, the music in this anime is phenomenal. The opening “Sing My Pleasure” is one of my favorite and makes me smile when I hear it. Paired with beautiful graphics, Vivy was gorgeous from start to finish. And the plot line was emotional with twists that I didn’t see coming. I don’t want to spoil what happens, because it’s wonderful to experience firsthand. And the journey of Vivy finding out what it means to put your heart into something is very relatable as a creator.

If you love science-fiction mixed with drama, I highly recommend Vivy. It’s only one season with 13 episodes, but it’s worth it.

5/5 Singularity Effects
